Hatsumomo was one of the most beautiful Geisha in all of Kyoto (and Japan). The prized member of the Nitta Okiya, Hatsumomo brought in more revenue than just about any other geisha at the time. She believed herself to be on the track of being adopted by Mother, the head of the Nitta Okiya, until Chiyo arrived. Jealous of Chiyo's natural beauty, Hatsumomo did everything in her power to destroy her life and career. This eventually backfired, as Mother adopted Sayuri (Chiyo as geisha), and forced Hatsumomo out onto the streets.
